@Ryan Scott Isacksen, @Account Closed, @Jared Bouzek, @Jean Bolger, @James Carlson, @Bill S. - guys, thank you so much for sharing your expertise for Tek. We do a lot of investments here in Seattle - and Tek asked us about advising him in Denver, which is a market very unfamiliar to us.

It's refreshing to see BiggerPockets community giving an awesome perspective.

@Thomas S. - I'd agree with you in terms of renting to relative, but knowing Tek and what he is trying to do here, we decided not to advise him against this plan.

@Troy Fisher - thank you for mentioning our group. @David M. - welcome to BP.

I couldn't say enough good things about all the free meetup groups. We go to as many as we can - and always find great value. Be sure to join the BP Meetup group - among others that are on the Meetup.com.

Fred - welcome! We have a lot of friends that are in Google, Microsoft, Facebook and others also having thoughts about doing Real Estate Investing.

The biggest questions we ask them is are they interested to get involved Passively or Actively. A lot of people want to jump both feet in - but without right tools and knowledge in place, we see a lot of them actually lose money.

If you goal is to eventually get more and more involved in Real Estate, it's going to take some learning - and Bigger Pockets is a great place to do just do just that. Attend meetings that are close to you.

If you are looking to diversify your investments by including Real Estate - that's a different approach. For example, buying a rental property VS doing a flip.

Active involvement typically involves higher risk - especially starting out. Passive involvement can too. Bottom line in both of those, you need to get some basic education.

What's your goal getting involved in REI?

Hit-or-Miss in Seattle and surrounding areas. Gets close to real values in some neighborhoods, not even close to others. There are a lot of factors that it can't account for. However, we use it frequently to figure out values of homes based on what was sold that's comparable to property we look at.

For rents, we tend to favor Craigslist.
