We just came up with the idea to invest in real estate this week.  So I'm diving in and trying to do as much reading and research as I can.   

We have a friend who has a vacation rental in Hawaii that has some success.  She did tell us though that the hotels aren't a big fan of people doing vacation rentals.  Also the fact that we don't live in Hawaii I see as major downside.

Hello, I just joined and wanted to introduce myself.  My wife and I live in Los Angeles.  She owns a couple of waxing salons and I play poker professionally.   She owns a rental property in Tennessee that she purchased before we were married.  Now that we are married we are interested in investing in a vacation rental.  Some markets we are considering are Palm Springs, Hawaii and Austin, TX, but we are definitely open minded to anything.
