Anybody heading to the event coming from the Clemson area? I'd love to tag along! My wife and I only own 1 car and she will be in GA this weekend with the vehicle otherwise I'd drive myself there!

@Caleb Heimsoth I'm a physical therapist and so is my wife! We both just quit our previous jobs to become travel therapists which will give us a about a $30K raise.......each :)

@Dutch Langley Thanks for that perspective Dutch! I do appreciate my education and degree in that sense. Grateful for the opportunities it has brought me. The people I've met because of it. And I'm not sure that I'd be in the mindset I am without it...

@Damaso Bautista I can definitely agree that we're in a better place than most! Thankfully my wife is a really smart cookie and we work great together so we've already been able to do most of what you have suggested at this time. We just gotta grind it out now!

My wife and I just finished graduate school about a year ago. We're currently 60% thru reading Set For Life, new to the real estate scene and wishing we could do it all over. Neither of us come from educated or financially literate families so we did what we thought was best. Unfortunately that involved taking out a ton of student loans that are now keeping us from qualifying for real estate loans!!

If I knew then what I know now.....I would have NEVER gone to college. I would've taken up a trade, been a real estate agent, or taken on some other commission-based job.

Noted! Thanks for the input! Looking forward to checking it out! Are there any local real estate meetups in the area that happen on a regular basis?

I would suggest staying in the SE as much as possible because its really booming right now and prices aren't too high even in the market we are in. I live in Greenville SC which is an amazing place to live so naturally I would recommend Greenville. We have great engineering jobs and a growing urban area of about 450-500k people. Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and South Carolina seem to be great however they all have different rules and regulations so you have to do your homework. I am going off to college in a few months and I will be house hacking down in Columbia SC so I guess we will be in a similar boat. I wish you guys the best of luck.

That's what we're hoping for! We love the SE USA! We're currently in Tampa. My mom actually lives in Columbia and my wife and I are going to be near Clemson for a few months for a work assignment so we'll definitely check out Greenville! I wish I had learned about this things when I was in college and had house hacked for all those years! So much money would've been saved! Congrats on being head and shoulders above your peers!

Hey man I'm a new investor as well and something that I've heard from multiple sources is to only tell your tenants that you're the new property manager (assuming you wont be outsourcing this) and not to disclose that you're the owner. I wish I could give you the exact reasons but maybe someone else can elaborate.

My wife and I are travel therapists just starting our careers after graduating and have recently begun learning about real estate investing. We're currently listening to Set For Life by Scott Trench on Audible and have decided to house hack. We'd like to find a spot somewhere on the east coast or midwest. We'll likely use this as a spring board for future investment properties as well!

What do you wish you knew before house hacking? Any recommendations and things to be aware of? Areas of the country that might be more ideal for house hacking?
