A lot of it you should be able to answer because it doesn't look like you will have trouble getting finance.

Do you want to commute? I wouldn't. Being closer to work is more important to me than the price of the home. The best way to determine if its worth the high prices is to look at the past 10-20 years. Has it for the most part continued to grow in value? If so, most likely it will as time goes on. 

If you can;t afford anything near work, well the choice is easy. You have not choice but to commute and live in a place more affordable. Appreciation is out of your control, all you can do is force appreciation through value add. So find the worst place in the best location that you can afford.

Once you have the place, everything else will fall in place by educating yourself and taking action.

Definitely will be handy with how things could potentially turn out in these next few years.
