I agree with @Marcia Maynard, need a little clarification on your situation. However, as a police officer myself, it sounds like there is something you're leaving out. I won't get in to the criminal side of it as I don't know your whole story, your situation, or New York law. But it sounds like you should apply for a protection from abuse or protection from stalking order. If the police deemed they didn't have enough necessary for criminal charges, such as criminal threat, this is another route on the civil side. It is not difficult in my municipality to get temporary restraining orders the day you apply at your local court house. This also gives police another route. Though, I'm not implying the officer you talked to wasn't just being lazy... Best of luck in your situation.

I found half of a duplex for sale. The property comes with a tenant and even if I were to purchase at asking price, it has a good ROI (around 15%). However, it doesn't seem very desirable to me to own only half of a duplex. I'm unsure of how you would complete required maintenance, especially on the exterior. Does anybody have any experience or thoughts on this? Thanks in advance!

Jesse, thanks for the reply! That'd be great. Being able to talk things out would be very beneficial. Feel free to shoot me a message any time.

Hey everybody! I’m a new investor in Kansas City, MO. I listened to nearly all of the BP podcasts before finally setting up an account. The information I’ve gathered from the site has been incredible and motivating. I live in the Northland with my wife and son, who was born in September of 2017.

I would love to start with a duplex as my first property but feel a single family home would help me better learn the landlord side of things to start. I have looked at several properties so far but realized the numbers didn't work after seeing the rehab they needed. I want to start with turn key rentals to get my feet wet and ultimately move to the BRRRR method.

I look forward to connecting and meeting with other investors around me!

Quicken Loans does 20% down for duplex and single family. They don't raise their down payment to 25% until four plex units (I'm unsure of what they require on a triplex). Might look into them if you're running short on time.
