The VA hospital, Scott & White, and Ft. Hood are the major employers of the area. There are a lot of retired military in the area. Killeen and Harker Heights might as well be one big city as you really can't tell that you entered the next town unless you read the sign that says "welcome to...." Killeen and Harker Heights both have pockets to stay away from, that being said most of everything south of 190 is newer.

Families with children (in my experience) try to move to Belton as this apparently has the better school district. That being said property taxes are higher. They are also building a new high school, Lake Belton High School.  Also many of the doctors that I have talked to either live in Belton or they commute in from Georgetown or Round Rock.

I don't know too much about Temple, except the area around Scott and White is growing. I know they just built 2 apartment complexes right across the street from it within the last 1-2 years.

I hope this helps in some way. Happy New Year!

Thanks for the insight Hannah,

Have you worked with any good rap estate agents in the Belton, Killeen, HH area?

Hello everybody, I'm new to investing in rental homes.

Looking to start purchasing single family homes (7+) between San Antonio and Waco for rentals. Still living in Las Vegas but will be relocating to TX in 2 years.

I want to get going in 2019, so I've been doing a ton of reading on BP and talking everyone I know that owns rentals. Is it a reasonable plan to start calling property managers and realtors in the cities like Temple, Killeen, SA, San Marcos, etc. to ask their advice on high potential neighborhoods, types of homes that are desired by renters?

Thank you for any advice, and thanks for entertaining a rookie. :).

If you want to invest in 7 SFR why not look into a small multi family unit?

Have you formed legal entities yet?

Great questions Ronald,

What do you think are the pro and cons between SFRs and multi family units from a legal standpoint?

BTW, I haven't taken investing in MFUs off the table. Thank you for taking the time to connect Ronald.

Thank you for the insight Charley, I'll keep in mind the retirees in those areas when looking for houses.

What are the areas of Killeen, Harker Heights, and Temple I should stay away from in terms of crime, or just difficult to rent?

Thanks again for taking your time to share your advice.

Thanks for the welcome guys,

My understanding of the Temple area is that Scott & White medical center and the VA hospital are two major employers in the area. What are thoughts on what size SFRs, and what areas of Temple might offer the best cash flow for rentals?
