Hey, Everyone.
It has been a dream of mine for the past 17 years to start investing into real estate. I spent most of my 20's in the construction industry and know a lot about doing the actual work it takes to renovate a home, so I feel that gives me some sort of edge. I have also been running my own business that has done fairly well for the past 7-8 years (not in construction). So I feel that really helps prepare me on some fronts as well.
I have been talking about doing this for long enough and have made a promise to myself that 2022 is the year I do... something. Whether it is buy my first piece of land or find a foreclosure. I am also toying with the idea of getting a real estate license as well and starting there. I am only 37 years old and feel I do have the time to spend on learning every bit of the ins and outs of real estate through selling real estate first. My business is seasonal so I feel it would also be a good fit in that respect.
I have been searching online and cannot get a clear answer on something, though. The question I have is, can someone have a real estate license in Maine and also be an investor? I was talking to someone in South Carolina who was a customer of my tourism business, she is a real estate agent. She told me one day how you can't do that in South Carolina. But then when I go online it clearly seems possible in other states but I can't get a definitive answer on Maine.
The end goal is to be an investor, so if I can't become one or if there is going to be problems becoming one after having a real estate license, I'd rather skip it and go right to investing. Before I pay for and take the courses to get my license I thought I'd reach out to see if anyone can help me figure this out. I am very grateful for any answers anyone can offer. Thanks!
