Post: Considering becoming a RE agent

I am considering signing up for the course and taking the exam in NY. I am confused about the structure of the business.

Do you become a RE agent first? Then broker?

How do you find a job? Do you have to work under a broker? How do you know what is a good place to work?

If someone can offer some input it would greatly help. TIA

I was wondering if you went ahead and got you license. I am also from NY and am thinking of doing the same thing right now for many of the same reasons you listed. I am thinking of doing it on a more of a full time basis though. If you went ahead and got your license, can you briefly breakdown the first year. TIA

I live in NYC and am thinking of getting my real estate license. Can someone with knowledge of the topic please give me some pros and cons of doing so. I plan on getting my license and working as an agent full time. TIA

Thank you for the response. Is this a motivational book or will it actually teach?

I am considering getting my real estate license. Does anyone have any recommendations on books that I can read that can potentially prep me. I am looking for introductory level stuff.

TIA

I have and that can definitely be a potential option. I am just curious if NYC is possible to crack for someone in my position. Thank you for the response.

Hello, I am a 29 year old reading the Brendon Turner book on rental property investing. Although the book is very interesting and informative, I am skeptical. Am i naive to believe that renting properties in NYC with little to no liquidity is impossible? Brandon talks about all this success in the midwest, but NYC is a different beast in my opinion. For 100k you pretty much wouldn't get a bucket to spit in. Am I wrong? Can someone please with knowledge of the NYC real estate market please prove me wrong and maybe advise me a bit. Or maybe even offer an alternative that potential real estate investors in NYC can be successful in. Keep in mind that liquidity is low and everything would pretty much have to be done through potential leverage.
