This is so helpful, Marky. Thank you. Good to see someone that other first time investors are looking outside their local area too (makes me feel as though I’m not being silly for thinking about it) and grateful for your insights on not being too hasty.

@Andrew Dorich, ha! The weather right now is particularly tricky but I’m from Scotland so not all that different. Will do.

Thank you, @Davido Davido. I appreciate it. I found this REI group online previously and was planning on going to their next meeting.

@Andrew Dorich, welcome! I'm a newbie too and, interestingly, I was just looking at Jacksonville properties yesterday. My husband works for a company that has an office there so we're looking at locations that we could potentially move to in which it might be slightly easier to get into REI than where we are currently in Washington. It's not that it's bad here—it's just that there aren't lots of really great deals to be had because lots of Seattle investors have bought them up.I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Jacksonville real estate market right now.

Thank you for your continued service. My husband just left the army in August and is enjoying the freedom of other opportunities. I hope you achieve your goals so that you can have the same. Time with family is the most important.

If you aren’t told about opportunities for veterans during your transition period, be sure to look up Hiring Our Heroes and similar organisations. It’s one of many non-profits which set veterans up with companies who are looking to hire veterans and their spouses. Good luck!

Keen to hear thoughts on this too. I know I might have to venture out of the Western WA area at some point if I want to amass more properties quickly. I’m thinking that they’re getting too expensive that it would potentially take me a couple of years in between each purchase.

It’s so interesting to hear everyone's thoughts on this. My plan is also to invest in multi-family from the get-go but, in saying that, I’m also willing to take a slightly bigger risk to scale quicker. I’m glad I found a realtor who  understands my goals and is willing to be creative. Thanks for the input everyone.

Hi all, is this the only thread for Western WA? I’m a newbie in the Olympia area. Hoping to network with local real estate investors and share insights.

Hello everyone,

I'm thought I'd do as @Joshua Dorkin suggests and introduce myself on this thread. My name is Jade Bloomfield and I'm a trained high-end residential and commercial interior designer and new real estate investor in the Olympia, WA area. I'm originally from Scotland, worked in London for 6 years for a luxury online interior design platform before moving to the States and I've been in the Olympia area for almost a year now.

I found Bigger Pockets through a suggestion from a friend whose husband has listened for many years. Glad to be here and ready to get going on the real estate journey.

I'm currently focusing on finding multi-family properties or single family properties which can be househacked to get started. My ultimate goal is to become a luxury residential and hospitality developer. I'm keen to work with local real estate investors, particularly high-end developers interested in a partnership with someone who is interested in handling the interior design element of their projects.

Looking forward to being part of the BP community!

Best,

Jade Bloomfield
