I have used Quality Home Inspections two times for homes in Clayton and Smyrna and was very pleased with the thoroughness and quality of the reports. I will use them again for my next property purchase in Delaware. The contact is Ted Hinderer.

Welcome Jeffrey. My husband and I are new investors in Delaware as well. We just bought our first multi-family property in Clayton. The monthly DELREIA meeting in Dover meets tonight 11/26/13 at 6:30 at Airbase Carpet - 756 S. Little Creek Rd.
Hope to see you there.

Thanks for the welcome everybody. I'm looking forward to this journey and feel I'm in good company. If ever I can be of assistance to anyone while here on the "shore", let me know.

Hi @Laura Hafer. I'm new here myself and just started working on my real estate license through Champion's online course because I'm about 80 miles from the nearest classroom here in Maryland. I wish I could tell you whether it's a good idea or not because I'm wondering the same thing myself. Being able to do the course work here at home whenever I can has been great but I'm not getting any feedback from the listed instructor on the website - I've left two voicemails with no return calls. I'm learning a lot and the quizzes and exams for each lesson give you good feedback.
I'm sure that I'm missing out on some networking opportunities by not being in the classroom but I think I can make up for that in other ways.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about my experience with it.

Thanks for the welcome Ron - I'll be sure to check out those videos. And thanks Brandon - I have been reading a lot of your posts about buying multi-family and being a landlord. You have been an inspiration.
See you around the site.

Hi everybody. My name is Jan Whitney and I live on the eastern shore of Maryland. I've been learning a lot from this great Bigger Pockets website ever since I found it while taking an online real estate investing course. I've read the awesome Ultimate Beginners Guide and have set up many keyword alerts. I'm in the process of reading J. Scott's book on flipping and rehabbing. Great stuff!
I have wanted to be in the real estate investing world forever it seems and decided to take the leap and learn as much as I possibly can and to eventually be financially independent through buying and holding rental property. I work full time from my home office.
My intention was to start by buying on the western shore a distressed property, doing a rehab and then selling it. My husband is a retired cabinetmaker and my son is a licensed contractor with his own painting business. We have many contacts in the construction business. From there to buy and hold for cash flow.
While looking for my fix and flip, I found two duplex properties that are great cash flow opportunities right here in my little town. I have them under contract but the termite inspection turned up infestation in both so I'm trying to figure out where to go from here. I don't want to knowingly saddle myself with two money pits at the start of my investing career.
I've taken J. Scott's advice and am pursuing my real estate license. It's all a great adventure and I'm looking forward to getting to know and continuing to learn from everybody here.

I think subterranean - they were treating by putting some chemical into the ground around the houses. We're on Maryland's eastern shore. How would you find a contractor with termite experience? Ask the termite inspecting company maybe?
