@Geode Pratt I'm interested in North Dallas (Addison, Plano, Friscos McKinney, Allen, Little Elm, The Colony, and certain parts of Carrollton). I'm weary of certain Dallas areas but I'm sure once I learn more about them I'll feel more comfortable.

@Hattie Dizmond Ohhhh gotcha, thanks :)

@Sheryl Griffin - Oooops, is market not the correct terminology? :-P sorry still learning. I appreciate your feedback and being able to read through my gobbledy-goop ha! How do I find out about these areas? Where do I turn for direction?

Hi all,

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! I already feel like I'm part of the family :-).

@Jon Klaus I appreciate the analogy, I'm still enjoying IT I look forward to the enhancements and innovations soon to come - it keeps me on my toes. As for Real Estate, that's the part where I'm lost - I don't really know where to start. I've started reading and trying to pick up the jargon, I'm slowly browsing multifamily homes, duplex, etc. I still have to find out where the up and coming areas are, figuring out how to determine "good" deals, etc. So I know I still have a ways to go (definitely don't want to rush but I also don't want to get complacent in the "learning" stage).

@Hattie Dizmond @Christopher Hunter Thanks! I sort of "stumbled" upon the site and now it has become part of my daily regime. @Geode Pratt Thanks, how has the market been treating you thus far?

@Paul Timmins I have tons of questions, you sure you want to open Pandoras box?! lol

Biggest question is: "Where do I start?!"

Hi all,

I’m JoJo originally from San Diego and now loving life here in Dallas. I’m a young (under 30) IT professional that specializes in analytics (data migration, marketing, financial, etc.). I’ve always been eager to learn and genuinely enjoy learning new things. This topic definitely sparked my interest and now I can’t seem to put the books (or my ipad) down. I don’t have any background in real estate (I’m a blank canvas) but am hoping to change that.

As far as what turned me onto Real Estate, the idea hit me while reading “Rich Dad, Poor Dad”; I realized I was stuck in the “rat trap” and I want out. Before then I’ve never thought about real estate – always thought it was too complicated, out of my scope, and extremely risky.

My goals are to learn and not be so afraid of the idea and eventually I want to own a handful of properties. I recently began dipping my toe into reading about real estate and getting familiar with the lingo. Next, I want to meet other like-minded people who don’t mind teaching and taking a noob under their wing.

I look forward to learning more, thanks!
