@Brian G. Do you have any regrets about doing this? I've had a similar thought because traditional retirement savings strategies bore me to death

@Maranda Tucker I was 27, had $6,500 and I made about 75k/yr at that time. I dropped $5k on my first house hack.

Quote from @Sergio Carrasco:

Thanks Jeff! I'm sure you had a good reason to sell, did you invest the money elsewhere? HOA's vary from complex to complex but generally speaking they charge about $330 (except for downtown Denver condos which are a lot more expensive), they typically include water, trash, snow removal, grounds maintenance, sometimes amenities like the pool and clubhouse, insurance and capital reserves. Is that similar out in Minnesota? I would 100% do it on my own if I were able to qualify back then. But I'm a big believer in teaming up with friends for these kind of things.

pretty similar!  you'll find 260ish/month in the south metro where I bought.  I bought an engagement ring and a duplex with my proceeds :)  Downtown minneapolis are in the 600s/m, and i've seen as high as 1000/m with assessments.

Great post!  This is exactly the way I started, the only thing I did wrong was sell ;).  nice work.  I'm curious what the HOAs are like out there, and if you'd have done this on your own if your partner wasn't in on it?

@Danielle Shipp is this the 10% down vacation (2nd primary) loan option?  If so, i'd love to hear about this and I may reach out to Allison.  I am curious what your assumptions were for your deal analysis and rental strategy?
