Quote from @Kathy Diamond:
@John Pray how’s the midterm rental working out? Did you end up buying in the city or in the town? How’s vacancy?
Sorry for the hiatus, had our first baby three months ago and it's been a bit of a whirlwind as you can imagine!
We bought a two-unit in the union street historic district (city) and are just finishing up the final touches on the bottom unit, will be ST renting that one while I begin renovations on the upper unit that will be MT rental. Hopefully finished by June for the cash-out refi (interest rate dependent, ha)
Trying both avenues out just to learn as much as we can from our first property.

Great, thanks for the advice! Main street is most certainly in need of some risk-taking commercial investors, but the city has such incredible environmental potential. We put an offer on a 2-unit in the historic district today, so here's hoping!

My wife and I are pre-approved for a home and have been considering house-hacking a multifamily in the Poughkeepsie area; potentially focusing on medium term rentals for traveling nurses.
We are hoping to hear from anyone that has experience on either the rental or renter side, along with recommendations on the most desired neighborhoods and amenities around the Poughkeepsie area.
Thanks in advance!

"Rising tides lifts all boats" means that everyone is above water, and in a better position to live. Your comments suggest that you would only feel successful if your boat is higher than the others.
