Hi guys, I am getting ready to purchase a duplex in the very near future. I am planning on owner occupying, but if it is fully rented that is ok too. This will be the first purchase of many that I am planning in the next 5-10 years. My question is should I be considering starting an LLC for my first purchase? what are the pro's and con's.

@Account Closed,

Welcome, I have been on BP for a few weeks now and I absolutely love it. I cant think of any other way to network and tap into a wealth of knowledge that you have access to on this site. With that being said I am also a new investor, I live in Hugo and I am looking to get into flipping and Buy and Holding. Good luck to you and I would love to possibly get together with you and some more seasoned investors for tips on investing.

Hey BP friends, are any of you part of any local Real Estate groups? do you have any recommendations for a new investor to network? I have heard on almost all of the podcasts that it is a good idea to join a good group in your area to find mentors and/or network.

Thank you all for the great feedback. I am currently looking at a few duplexes. I was leaning in the multi family direction so I am glad to hear that my thought process was accurate.

So I am a complete rookie so any and all information is truly appreciated. Can you guys help me to decide how I should make my first step in real estate investing. The short and simple of it is that I want to become financially independent and I know real estate is the best way to accomplish this goal. When all is said and done I would like to have enough rental properties to generate a good cash flow. So I have two questions, first whats your opinions on the most efficient way to get to that point. Second I am going to start looking for our first house, would you suggest multifamily or single family flip? I am leaning towards multifamily, but mostly because I do not want to pay another 6-7 grand towards a mortgage that is not mine.

It was brought to my attention that a there is a property that has been unoccupied for a number of years. My question is how do I go about finding out who the owner is? After finding out who the owner is how should I approach them?

Thank you @Brett Snodgrass,

There is definitely a wealth of knowledge on BP.com, I started listening to the podcast about a week ago and I absolutely love it. I am excited to finally get going on a dream I have had for a very long time, but I will take my time and educate myself as much as possible before making my first purchase.

I have been interested in real estate since I purchased a Carleton Sheets course some 15 years ago, I just never pulled the trigger. I am looking to Flip and eventually own a few rental properties. I am hoping to meet others who have been successful in real estate that can assist me with learning how to find and flip properties so that I can eventually be a successful investor.
