Thanks @Ryan Landis and @John A Murray for your replies. After doing some further research it does seem like JADU would be the best path forward for us provided we meet building code.

If anyone has had any good experiences with specific contractors who would have the expertise for this please PM me.

Thanks both for the info. It's definitely encouraging to see that there is increasing support for ADU development. Seems like I have some further research to do before I proceed.

Also would be open to any tips on what to ask/look for when selecting an architect/contractor for a job like this.

Hi all,

First time poster but appreciate all the discussions happening here. We have a finished downstairs studio room (500 sqft or so) with a full bath in Pacifica, CA. Not sure about the permit status. Could this be potentially converted into a legal ADU and what would be a ballpark figure for something like this? Would we need to be concerned about ceiling height and doorway clearance?

Appreciate any info.
