Welcome to BP Kyle. I can't help you with your question but I did not see a member introduction thread so I wanted to say hello and welcome you to the community. I am sure some Grand Rapids locals will chime in and answer your question.

One thing to keep in mind is you are going to have to learn the jargon and skills one way or another, it is just a matter of figuring out the best way to do so. Being able to speak the language of real estate investing is crucial if you are going to find long-term success in this business.

Welcome to BP Pete. I missed this post but thought I would drop a quick line and welcome you to the site...I always try to reach out to active military and veterans (I was an AF maintenance officer until I separated last summer). Thanks for your service and good luck!

Welcome to BiggerPockets! The resources here on BP are vast (forums, blogs, podcasts, ebooks, etc), so make sure you browse the site and take full advantage of the different information mediums.

There are a lot of ways to get started in real estate investing, so figuring out which path you want to take based on your goals and personal situation is a good step one. You can read about the various types of investments right here on BP to get a better grasp of which one might be best for you.

Good luck!

Welcome to BP Jiana. I too want to transition into real estate full time (been doing it part time for a few years now) but I am taking some time to take advantage of the income from my day job.

There is a ton of info here on BP about flipping, so keep learning and interacting in this community!

I haven't heard this. What's the reason they give?

Welcome back to BP! I also have never heard of this before, in fact both my business partner and I are licensed agents and real estate investors.

What have you found to be the best way to learn since it is difficult for you to sit and read a bunch of information? Would it be helpful for you to sit and take "practice" scenarios and analyze the deals? Being able to determine if a certain property at a certain price is a deal is one of the most crucial skills an investor can have, so you need to figure out how you can best learn how to perform analysis.

There have been hundreds of posts on BP where investors ask if a certain project is a good deal or not, so perhaps going through those threads might help you exercise your own analysis skills.

It is good to have you back on board...stick around this time. Let BP nation know how they can help and I am sure you will find what you are looking for.

Welcome to BP Chris. I will say you do not have to pick just one strategy. I started out flipping a few years ago to grow enough capital to branch out and combine several strategies. Now, while continuing to flip, we have also started purchasing rental properties to hold (we have purchased 2 this year so far).

While I would not recommend jumping into various areas of REI right away, you should consider which strategies will ultimately help you reach your goals and figure out how and when to utilize them. Good luck!

Welcome to BP Keldah. The ag industry has always been interesting to me. BP is full of resources (blogs, forums, e-books, podcasts, guides, etc) to help both new and experienced investors and there are a ton of successful investors right here on the forums willing to answer questions, so you have come to the right place to learn.

Welcome to BP Edsiaren and thanks for your service. I just got off Active Duty last summer. Glenn is one of the active military members here on BP and there are several others as well (you will see them if you stick around). As far as getting your first deal underway go and talk to some community banks and see if that would be an option for you, they are often able to lend when the big banks cant. Before you do that though, check out the financing options (you can use the search bar at the top right to help you find info) and what you need to use different lenders.

Glenn is spot on about finding a true deal, because that is where most new investors screw up...they find bad deals and try to make them work. Good luck to you!
