At your local REIA meeting you can ask around and find out who other REI's are using. The NYC area is so large, I would guess there are probably quite a few REIA meetings per month. Just do a search in your preferred search engine for "Real Estate Investors Association (Fill in your city)".

Currently, only one three bedroom in Cicero, NY. it's a suburb of Syracuse. the house has decent potential, a well up-kept outside and it has lake rights to Oneida LKe Cross the street but the inside hasn't been updated since the 60's. It would need a total kitchen and bathroom rehab and fresh paint for the other rooms. Great house though, a split lebel with four stories.

if you let me know what you're looking for, I could start looking for something that meets your criteria.

I would be very careful.  In this city, one block can make a huge difference.  I would never buy a house unless I had driven around the neighborhood and had seen what's going on and where it's headed.  Personally, in Syracuse, I would only want to own property in the following neighborhoods: South Valley (South of Seneca Tpke), Eastwood, Tipp Hill, University section, and far North side (north of Court/Grant).  Stay AWAY from the North Valley, south/west sides and most of the north side.  I'm looking at a house right now that I think would make a great flip, but I don't have the money and my strategy is buy and hold. Would love to talk more if you want.

This is great advice.

I am very interested in discovering more. OP, did you ever get your flipping business off the ground in Syracuse? My husband and I are just beginning a business and wholesalers and we're looking for buyers/flippers to work with. We live in and both grew up in Syracuse (while my husband grew up in Syracuse and I grew up in a suburb of Syracuse called Balwinsville) so we are very familiar with the area.

I was reading the "28 ways to build a buyers list" thread and decided to try googling "We Buy Houses Syracuse, NY"... stupid that I haven't already checked! There's a company that serves that main cities in the state and it seems pretty large and professional. I feel so discouraged, my husband and I feel really passionate about beginning REI in wholesaling but is there ANY chance that we could compete with a company like that? Any successful RE wholesalers here who live in a city that has a major company that does wholesaling? TIA

Craigslist, directmail, bandit signs (not very popular around here...), driving for dollars. These are a few suggestions.

Abolustely! Add cost to the property without a dime from your pocket? Sounds like the perfect situation to me. I would just make sure to closely oversee the performance of this installation.

In my state, the rules for a home for Section 8 are quite strict compared to those for SSI which makes SSI tenants favorable. The question for you is, could you continue to find SSI residents that would be willing to rent at the higher price?

Also... I always get very excited when I see @Brandon Turner  commenting on a forum I'm involved in because I know what his voice sounds like. I have a lot of catching up to do, but I listen to your podcasts daily and am a huge fan. You are like a superstar in my household.
