Post: Do I have to become a Realtor®? Non-member agents get played!!!

Whats wrong with being just an agent? I know I don't have to be a Realtor® and I would be fine with that, however, not being a member of this association is almost not fair to those who choose to do real estate without joining. I don't get access to MLS (at least), plus other things.

Other agents feel as if I'm a hindrance to them for them to unlock a home to show it to a client. The lock box access should be available to anyone that is a licensed agent with the state also the MLS.

Paying hundreds of dollars to say your an upstanding real estate agent seems unfair. And the treatment non member agents get from member agents further makes being a non member agent a joke.

I feel pressured to become a Realtor® because member agents continue to tell me how hard this business is without being a member, how I can't accomplish my goals without membership, and how it's going to cost me another $$$$ to join and dues. I can't even get an accurate price of joining the association on the official website. Sad. And no member can tell me an actual membership fee.

So now I'm pressured into becomeing a member. But I wanted to know are there any real estate agents that have been in the business for a few years plus that have been successful without being a agent?

Is it worth it for an agent to do a "Rent to Own" deal?

Do most rent to own sellers list with an agent?

@Aikane Belez thanks! Usually the listings that attract me are 150+ day old listings posted by agents. I intended to research public records and the like, however, wanted to get a better understanding of these type of listings.

Who can I contact when I've come across a a listing that is 150+ days old on sites like Zillow, Trulia, Redfin, etc. ?

Also, how can I technically know when a listing has expired? How do you know what type of contract the seller had with the agent?
