Connect to Your Higher Purpose
First, I say don’t watch the news…it will only bum you out. But secondly, if you do watch news feeds and the like, remember what you are seeing is the SENSATIONALIZED EXCEPTIONS, NOT THE NORM. What do I mean? The news has to be shocking to even get our attention anymore. So they seek out the 1% of crazy going on and then amp it up with fear and noise. To prove this, ask yourself one question, “How many people in my friends and family, are involved in that _______________ (fill in the blank)”. For example, How many were involved in a riot this weekend? If there are a couple thousand people who read this piece and each of them know 50 people, the chances are few if any were actually involved in any of the crazy.
The point is, the overwhelming majority-like 90% of Americans, are people just going to work, trying to raise a family, trying to live or get by….the average American is generally a good person trying their best. You can’t fix the far end crazy, you just can’t. So again, focus on your attitude and your efforts and even better…connect what you do to a higher purpose. Seek to do your part by empowering and helping the people around you. The people in your family and friends are the marketplace and the ministry and the harvest for you. Get busy helping them and THAT will make an impact, not watching the news. Look at what you do, your job, and think about what purpose it serves, how it impacts and benefits the people you serve and begin to take that “giving” type attitude into your day. Stop looking at the transactions as transactions and start looking at them as a benefit to society. For example,
I close loans pretty much every week now. Those are transactions. But one of them was a start up daycare to a wonderful woman who will do an amazing job teaching kids for years to come. Another was to a person who had worked at Assisted Living Facilities for years and now bought one which she will run with dignity and grace. One was a borrower who owned 5 Firehouse Subs and just bought 4 other ones…he is extending an empire that will provide an amazing life for his children and children’s children. I can look at those as transactions or I can look at them as a harvest-those loans probably would not have gotten done if not for me since they all got denied before coming to me. Start looking at the people you serve and see the real story, the real benefit and begin to see yourself as that agent of positive change. But don’t stop there….think about the impact you can have on people in your sphere of influence with your attitude and positivity.
When the Coronavirus hit and people were very fearful and scared, I decided to begin to do more of these tips but make them more about life and encouragement to just give people some positive in their day. I consciously made a decision to go to my sphere of influence and try to be a positive force for them. YOU CAN DO THE SAME IN YOUR SPHERE OF INFLUENCE. Follow my lead. The people you love are just as bummed out about what they are seeing as you are, so focus them on the positive. Focus them on the good THEY are doing, focus their attitudes and actions on the positive and think about how you can bless them. Connect to a higher purpose at work and in your family and social network and do the part you have been called to. Don’t worry about the crazy, focus on those around you and pour out the love. THAT is how you can make a difference…..plus it is WAY MORE FUN!
