I've been reading posts and listening to podcasts for awhile, and finally decided to say something because I have questions.
I own three properties and paid cash for all of them. One is my first home that I bought a couple years after I finished school, in NY. About ten years later I bought a home in a rural area as a getaway, in VT. A month ago I purchased a three family house in Worcester, MA. I didn't do any of this because I saw myself as a real estate investor. I came into this backwards.
I also discovered that as an attorney I can easily obtain a real estate broker's license in NY and MA. Since I've become tired of law work and want a big change, this seems like a good thing to pursue and learn about.
I will be asking a lot of questions soon, mostly about whether to keep my first two properties and rent them out or sell them. The NY property doesn't seem to me to be a good prospect for renting, due to the high taxes. The VT property is actually an ideal property to rent due to the lack of rental housing in the area, and it's close to two universities. However, the VT property is a stinking lousy drive from Worcester, MA, my new home.
After I find out how to use the abbreviations and organize my numbers, I'll ask my questions. Just wanted to say hello and to say thank you, because BP has been a great place for me to learn.

The ONLY thing that has ever worked for me -- but would be difficult to do in a front yard -- is to cover a weedy area with a tarp for a long time. Pull up the tarp during a rainy week and throw down some grass seed. I never use chemicals when there are other ways.
