Oh sorry Thomas, I did omit that fact. I demanded they pay the utility bills or leave. Even did so in writing. And via email.. And a few days ago I posted a 30 day notice on the room they are staying and mailed a copy certified to the house. I'm just very afraid to eave them alone in my house for 30 days now, while I work. I know how to legally evict them  I just was hoping someone would have some obscure end around the 30 days being they don't have a lease, or rental agreement, and not paid one dime. Not even a deposit. Like I said, I would never ever do business this way, I'm a tough landlord. I get 1drvlsst and security deposits and always make them turn utilities on themsrlves in their own names. No exceptions. Five days late, adiós.you'll be gone before your deposits run out. And the utility companies  can shut off their utilities when they don't pay them. So how I let this situation arise in my on home..  Can't believe it.

Thank you Anthony. Not wanting to help anybody. These people are just squatters at this point. Could care less if they sleep in a car. No guilt or feeling of obligation or even kindness at this point. Just trying to protect my own *** and I got cautioned about evicting a family member in any self remedy way would make me the one in deep legal trouble. I'm going to consult an attorney tomorrow as soon as they open but have been having anxiety attacks over the weekend about my property and hoped one of my BP friends might have a creative way around Illinois insane squatter rights. The cable bill they installed is in their name, and when I called the cable company  explained that I am the home owner and have no permission for this instalation, and they told me they can't disconnect it unless I can prove I am the ACCOUNT oener! sn't that insane!?

I woulf go buy no trespass signs and change locks right now but everyone with true legal  real estate experience and  the state of Illinois website says its illegal for me to do that even if they were strangers. And cut specifically cautions that any means of self remedy will result in MY prosecution, self remedy including changing the locks.. I'm sure experienced landlords all know this. I'm told in the state of Illinois that is the worst possible thing I can do, It says I can't even shut off my own utilities while they are here. Then I am the one that can can be prosecuted. Very unfair, I don't appreciate a novice telling me to grow a pair and hope the bigger pockets monitor is watching this person. In the state of Illinois you can't even kick out a stranger that moved in while you were  on vacation without 30 day notice. I was hoping an actual experienced Illinois resident or real estate attorney might see my post.

thanks Robert, does anybody know if cable count as a utility? They also installed a huge cable package on my television, in their name. I'm curious if I can legally disconnect. Also can I remove the window air conditioners? MY room doesn't even have air conditioning, and I'm getting stuck with the bills!

Hi BP friends. I did the ultimate no no, my niece and her union plumber husband needs a place to stay in town, and I let them stay with me if he plumb my bathroom and does a little fixing up. Was specific in verbal firm, 1000 a month worth of plumbing. Well, it's been 4 months, they never ever mowed the grass. I couldn't even get him to install a smoke detector. This is not their primary residence, they're from Tennessee, my home is in Illinois. They needed a place to stay while he's up here doing scab work. They promised to pay the utilities, but not only are refusing to give me a dime, they are installing their own window units, broken washing machines, hanging enormous objects from my 100 year old plasterand running up enormous utility bills. They promised to cut the grass while I went to Florida last month, and when I returned it was 30 inches tall. I'm in serious fear for my property from stupidity. Can't believe I did this horrible blunder in my own home, would never do biz like this in a rental unit. Any ideas around the 30 days? I really fear more damage, utility bills, and theft.

Hi Meghan, Is there a meeting this month? September?
