This is information best discussed with an attorney in your local area. Many attorneys offer free, initial consultations to determine whether they can help you with your case. My recommendation is to seek out an attorney willing to do a free consultation to discuss the facts of your particular case with and to develop a course of action.

Thanks for the input. I've reached out to a few different attorneys this afternoon. Hopefully I will have one on the case by tomorrow.

Also, I will be posting the 10 day "pay or vacate" notice on their door tonight. I sent a copy of the notice to her cell phone as well.

I recently leased a property to a tenant on April 23rd. The check the issued for the security deposit and prorated rent had bounced, and May rent has yet to arrive. I checked with their bank, they currently have a negative balance and no way to pay. To make matters worse, the tenant is dodging my phone calls and text messages. I've decided to proceed with evicting them, however, I'm mildly familiar with the process. Is it worth hiring a lawyer to handle the eviction for me? I'd like the process to be done as efficiently as possible and am not sure I have the knowledge or time to handle it entirely myself. For reference, the property is located in NC.

Also, since I have yet to receive a single dollar from the tenant, am I able to void the lease?
