It was my idea too. Different location (I prefer to be closer to the shore).

My observation was that multi family houses were in not desirable neighborhoods. It’s not common to live in a duplex. Most houses a single family.

Also the rent is much lower than in Westchester, but taxes are 10 times lower!

You want to start a real estate journey  - start it.

To be in line with Dave - have an emergency fund in case the tenant will not pay or some repairs will needed. Look if you can support two properties from your salary.

Need some advice on how to proceed with the situation:

We signed our part of the contract to buy a property, give 10% earnest money, but the owner is passed away without signing his part of the contract. Now, after 3 month, the seller's family telling us that other prospective buyers offering more and want us to raise a price.

Any ideas how to handle this situation?
