There will always be some good and reliable contractors mixed in with the not so great ones.  You can't be afraid to ask for recommendations and try them out.  Just be ready to cut the cord if they are not performing according to expectations. Especially  if it's the first time you have worked with them.  Always make sure they have done more work than what you hAve paid them.  I would be interested in a great contractor and if I found one I would definitely try to keep them busy with my projects and probably not give out their info to other people. However if I was unable to keep them busy year round I would give out their info to my close investor buddies.
