Post: Do I set up an LLC for my first investment?

Hey all!

I've found a property that I'd like to start my investment career with. It's a duplex and I'll most likely finance with an FHA or 203k depending on repairs needed. My question is... should/can I set up an LLC for my first investment or because I'm financing with an FHA, can I even setup an LLC for my first considering I'll be living in one of the units for a year?

Thanks for your help!

Hey BP community!

So, I’ve been back in the Philly area for about 3 months. I’ve been a freelance designer (Print, digital, branding, SMM, digital photography/dslr) for almost 3 years but have 5 years in-house corporate experience.

I'm trying to move away from freelance work and specifically trying to get into full, in-house work with a real estate business. I'd really like to learn REI hands on from the inside while bringing my skills to the table.

Although I’ve made a few connections, nothing too promising has come of yet. Any advice or suggestions on how to get started or where to look would be very appreciated! TIA!

@Phil G. Thanks for your reply Phil! This info helps. The property will most likely need a few upgrades. Just wondering if it was best to go with the 203k right away or take out another loan for repairs after financing with an FHA?

@Larry S. Thanks for your reply Larry! I did know that a 203k is an FHA. I was just wondering if it mattered which I applied for. The property will most likely need a few upgrades.

I'm looking into FHA's and I came across an article on 203k's and how they help with repairs/updates. Does anyone know if it makes a differance to apply for one or the other when buying my first property? Thanks everyone! This community has been insanely helpful.
