Hi Heidi,
I am also in Silicon Beach and much like your Partner I've often used my software development skills to help generate capital.
You will continue to find an abundance of knowledge, opportunities, connections and niche ideas on BP.

The journey of building something is one of the best parts of success. You get more reward than he does. In addition to all the experience you have earned you probably also experience a greater sense of satisfaction and accomplishment than he does.

That said, we are in what feels to be a slightly hyper-inflated tech bubble and I have been enjoying that.

Absolutely, J Scott -
Bryan Hancock, you were correct.
I feel lucky to have purchased metal low enough to still be up during this last three year bear. However, hindsight tells me I should have instead put more $ in Real Estate during the crash, and read fewer doom and gloom blogs.
Nicely done Bryan Hancock

I also took the classes online. I think a class setting might have forced me to get through course work quicker. I could have finished in 3 months and a dragged on slowly for almost a year before I qualified for the broker exam.
Also, passing the test here was much more about being test smart and remembering practice test answers. It was much less about practicing real world real estate. The practice tests online and listening to exam prep CDs during your commute are a great way to remember the correct answers.

I like Dave Ramsey's approach:

After I paid off my last car in 2007 I decided to quit car payments. I recently sold that car, and bought a car I love that is three years old, cash. The car dealer was doing her best to explain to me how this was a bad decision and that the best move is be to finance it with them :)
I will most likely never buy a new car or make car payments again.
