Post: Possible reason why gas company won't turn on gas

It took talking to several different people at the gas company but eventually they changed what they said and it only needed a meter put back on which meant I hired a plumber ($350) to inspect gas line and they had the city tag it to let the gas company know it was ready to go. And then my investor backed out and I had to cancel contract.

I have a property under contract to buy, a HUD property. I have until Fri to complete inspections. I called all 3 utility companies to have service turned on for the inspection but when I got to the gas company they said it will be 4-6 weeks and they have to put in a work order. Has anyone run across this? Is this a sign that there is an issue or just normal to do on a vacant house? Any input will be appreciated.

I have a question for all of you seasoned investors. We have a HUD house under contract and are in a 10 day inspection period and called to have utilities turned on for the inspector. But gas compnay said it will be 4-6 weeks before they can send a technician out to service the house because the house has been vacant. The guy on the phone was vague and said he would have to call me back and he could put in the order to install new pipes. Has anyone come across this? Is this reason for concern, because at this point we are concerned. Or is it typical? I appreciate your time and advice.

Thank you @Robert Leonard
And @Michael Faulk, yes, please let me know of the local meetup.
I sold both of my properties in MI when I moved here. The only property I currently own is the one I live in here.
My shop is Bombshell Beauty & Ink on Crestwood across from the old South Park Mall.

My name is Melanie and I have always been drawn to real estate and remodeling. I get a great sense of satisfaction from taking something from a distressed or outdated state and turning it into something new or building something from scratch like a deck. I co-own a Hair Salon-Tattoo Shop (which we completely remodeled from a doctors office to our Salon on our own) and I am a tattoo artist.
I got into real estate at a young age and owned 2 rentals by the time I was 20yrs old. I was a Realtor in MI for a few years but did not pursue it again when I moved to Louisiana. Dealing more hands on with Fix-n-Flips is better suited for my personality than sales or being a landlord so that's what I am pursuing.
