Post: Newbie getting into short term rentals

Hi Heather,

We own 2 short-term rentals..one in the Outer Banks and we recently purchased another one in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

We self-manage the one in the Outer Banks for the last 3 years.  I'd be happy to share our team/contacts with you if decide to invest in OBX.  For OBX, just a couple of items to factor in to your numbers are additional maintenance due to the salt air, and potential loss of revenue due to hurricanes.

In addition to the Outer Banks (Dare County) banning short-term rentals, they are also preventing non-resident property owners from going to your property in Dare County.  A lawsuit was recently filed by several non-resident property owners against Dare County related to this for violations of constitutional rights.

For my experience, we have a STR in the Outer Banks, which is a vacation market. The Outer Banks is a barrier island off of the coast of North Carolina.

Currently Dare County is not allowing guests to rent vacation homes in their jurisdiction, and is also not allowing non-resident property owners access to their homes (you can't get on the island).

Something to watch out for and consider when making a STR investment on an island, or if you are considering the Outer Banks.

There are lots of markets that receive their guests from driving instead of flying.  If you have concerns over the virus, you could focus on vacation markets where people drive to them.

Hi All,

We have a cabin in Intervale/Bartlett, NH we are considering renting on AirBnB and VRBO.  Does anyone have a cleaner they recommend for doing cleaning/turnover?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Post: Good Short-Term Rental Areas in West Virginia?

Hi All,

We are interested in potentially investing in real estate for a short-term rental/AirBnB in West Virginia.  We are not familiar with the vacation areas, or short-term rental hot spots and would be interested in knowing which areas to consider, and which ones to stay away from (due to short-term regulation, or overpricing, etc).

My initial thoughts were areas around Morgantown, and near the ski slopes, but would love to hear other areas to consider.

We already have one short-term rental in North Carolina, and would like to purchase a 2nd one possibly in West Virginia.

Thanks in advance for your help!

@Christian Manhard

Hi Christian - what day will it be? I can’t see the date at the moment...Maybe I haven’t had enough coffee this morning.

Thanks

Mike
