"Outliers" The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell. I'm on chapter 7 and am learning new things with every page read. So far, my best takeaway is that it takes about 10,000 hours to be extraordinary at something which every person has the ability to do.

Hi Lindsey. I'm looking for the same. We are moving our money from the big banks to a credit union. I did an online search and found Alliant often ranked #1 for high APY on checking and savings accounts and low bank fees but according to their website, they do not offer business checking accounts.

I had so much to write until I read @Eric Veronica and @Randy Bloch's advice.

Get your degree.

Learn as much as you can in school and out.

Take RE related courses.

Continue going to REI meet ups.

Find an internship in RE, some are paid.

Work part-time in RE related fields.

Avoid student loan debt like the plague.

You can do everything you want while going to school. The funny thing is, people who work through college are actually more likely to graduate. You can do it!

Do not buy now.

Save up.

In my humble opinion do not (ever) take cash advances on credit cards.

Listen to BiggerPockets episode #58 for creative ways to earn extra cash.

Dave Ramsey has good money saving tips too.

Read "Set For Life" by Scott Trench to learn how to get your finances in order to start investing.

Save as much as you can now and you'll be ready to buy your multifamily property in no time.

Post: Thoughts about the virtual CPA firm The Real Estate CPA?

I'm a millennial but in some ways I'm old school too and prefer seeing someone in person. Because I've been having the hardest time finding a new CPA, I wanted to open my options by considering virtual firms.  After reading all your answers on this thread, I am more likely to try it out.  However, I met with a local CPA today that I really liked. The only thing is, he mentioned that I will have to file an extension because, understandably so, he does not have the time to complete my small business returns by 3/15 (8 days from today). I would have to file for an extension. I will not owe taxes. Is it okay to file an extension or a bad idea?

Full Disclosure I know Brandon. Ive referred clients to him, he has referred clients to me.

The people I know who have used him have been happy. I do not personally use him based soley on the fact that the firm is virtual. Im old school...my cpa is in the building next door and I like doing business face to face. My lender and attorney are both in the same building I am. Brandon is great, his business model though isnt for everyone.

Wow! That's an all inclusive list of questions to ask a CPA. I will definitely reference and share your list.  Thank you.

A great deal of accountants work with out of state clients. You can find an array of them that specialize in real estate here. Being that I am an accountant I cannot advise towards or against any firm other than I will say to make sure you do your due diligence on any firm you hire. Make sure you ask them good questions, make sure they carry insurance and that they are available year round.

Here is a list of due diligence questions.

@Brandon Hall:  Thank you for jumping on the thread, especialy since it is your company I am asking about. :)
As I've dug a little deeper, I found many favorable experiences with virtual  CPA firms. I am not the most technical person but in this day and age, not being technical is even more reason to welcome opportunities to use platforms that help develop that skill.  As soon as I get off this thread I will watch Podcast #269. Thank you for sharing!

@Caleb Heimsoth, is your CPA a virtual firm or do you happen to work with them from out of state?
