Thanks for the discussion and comments, it sounds like its easy to get hurt in Buffalo if you don't due some extensive due diligence.  I'd imagine the process would be easier for a local like @Jonathan Sowinski than out of state or country investors. I guess I will have to work harder!

That said I'd also love to hear some more specific problems with Buffalo that investors have had, so myself and others can try to avoid the same pitfalls or mistakes.

Hello I`m looking for my first rental in Buffalo New York, Im in Canada but only 1.5h away, so i can still visit my properties occasionally. I will be using a property management company and hope to obtain multiple properties down the road.  Id love to chat with some buffalo investors, or locals that could share their experiences with this market, and help me avoid some of the common mistakes that come with this city.

Regards, Joel

Hello all I've been going through all the old podcasts and have been getting lots of good info however I'd love to hear how some of the successful Canadians have been locating deals, types of financing, locations. Strategies, buy and hold? Or flipping.

I've been hesitant getting into the Canadian market due to the frothiness in my area GTA (ontario) , however I do realize now there are deals to be had if you are willing to expand your search area.

I own my primary residence and a cottage that we are in the process of gutting, neither are income producing unfortunately. I'm in the process of looking for a duplex, St. Catharines looks like it could have some great potential.

Thanks Paul, I have been looking at student rentals here locally. That said the numbers are not very good, this has been part of delay in acquiring properties.  Some great information you have provided for getting started, I've already read and listened to much of it. I'm really enjoying going through the podcasts, tons of great information.

Shaun it really is a small world. Shoot me a pm if you ever back this way, i'd love to have a coffee and chat.

Regards, Joel

hello my my name is Joel

I have browsed biggerpockets in the past infrequently, but I'm interested in getting more involved and learning more about real estate. I have been successful in my past endeavors in investing, and I am looking to build up a long term portfolio of cashflowing properties, and a career of sorts. I would love to talk with other local investors and hear their ideas and experiences. I have experience financing deals and the capital to put to work. That said I'm still very green in real estate. I look forward to chatting and learning with all of you.
