I say and I learned this from Cris Chico. My funding partner will only allow x amount. Or The market will allow me to pay X amount. That way you put the blame on a 3rd party and just look like you are doing what you are told. If they get upset you agree with them and say you know what Let me go back and talk to them how much do you want? and negotiations are started....
