@John Casmon My wife is from Chicago and my son is planning to attend Columbia this fall. I was browsing some properties recently in your area listed on crexi.com. With my early knowledge Chicago seems like a great area for Class C-D apartments with some potential upside. Really considering that area for a start for properties <$500K since it seems like its a solid pool in that price range at first look.  

Looking for thoughts on whether newbies should should be seeking to enter REI starting with multi-family/apartments?

The market hasn't bottomed out all the way but I have found properties that are 40-60% below market value. What do mean by can I cashflow?

I am seeking help with getting involved with investing. I am about to take a contractor job overseas but I am thriving to purchase some properties that I can hold on to for a little while. Let me paint a picture of my sistuation. I am prior military, young man with no assets, no good credit to back me and no big savings account. What route would you reccommend I take to secure financing for some homes that are in foreclosure? Is is possible for me to deal while Im overseas? :idea:
