You answered your own question here :) Any part of a transaction with a Michigan address will go toward your quota.
Okay, does that apply to everything? I'm bound by all of that state's rules when I do business there?

I live in Oregon, but I'm trying to wholesale (assign contracts) for properties in other states. Michigan, for instance. However, in Michigan, you're only allowed to do four transactions a year if you don't have a license, Oregon doesn't have any such law. Would Oregon or Michigan law apply here?

@Zachary Curry:
So it's not possible to arrange for the money to be deposited in my bank?
Be prepared to Skype and over produce documentation showing you are, who you are.
I've got two passports (dual citizen), and a drivers license. Would that be enough?

Okay, great. How is the process different?
Since I won't be meeting with the title company or anyone in person, how do the papers get done? Since I won't be at the usual mailing address, how do I get my payment?

I'm going to be travelling for about six months, and I'm starting to look into getting myself set up so that I can do contract assigning from overseas. How is it done?

The law where you live, or in the state where the property is?
