Hi!

Does anyone have any recent experiences with Rent to Retirement that they can share? I have heard a lot about the pros, I want to know if anyone has something they DIDN'T like... to get a better idea of what I may get into. I am looking into out of state investing. Thank you!

Hi all!

I am looking to purchase my first property, and being that I live in Brooklyn, I am considering investing out of state. I am not sure how to go about building a team, and I have heard of Rent to Retirement on BiggerPockets podcast. This seemed like exactly what I was looking for. Being that is seems so easy, it is making me skeptical. I have seen other discussions on this, but I wanted to know if anyone personally invested with them and what their experience was like.

Thank you for your time!

Hi!

I wanted to add on to the question, as I have actually experienced the same thing.

The trouble I was having was researching accurate numbers on taxes, insurance, etc, as I was seeing very different numbers. How can I make sure I have the right information for that to conduct accurate analysis?

Quote from @Jeffrey Albaum:

Hi @Alicia Marks! I have found that I still struggle to nail down rehab costs. Although I get multiple quotes, I feel like I'm still constantly surprised by things that come up during the rehab. Biggest lesson I've learned is to always have way more cash than you think you need!

I totally agree with this one! I haven't done any deals yet, but I am doing my research. All I can say is that from experience in my own home growing up, where we remodeled three separate times, any rehab work was a huge headache. Contractors were unreliable and not motivated to get the job done. This was also in New York, where construction prices are super high. They often did sloppy jobs, wouldn't answer their calls, and showed up whenever it was convenient for them. I am sure there are good contractors out there, but be sure to do your research!

Thank you so much for your time to answer!

Being that NYC is such an expensive market, do you know any strategies that your friends use to cash flow in NY? The properties that I'm looking at that are in my budget are in not such great neighborhoods, and I am nervous of getting not great tenants there.

Thank you again for the answer.

Hi all!

I am a rookie here, and I have been reading, listening, and watching any content on real estate I can find in the past few months. I am 19 years old, still living at home, and have about 20k saved up. I have college tuition to pay this upcoming year but I strongly want to enter the market. Brooklyn's prices are crazy high, and I am not sure where to start. People have suggested house hacking, but as I am already living rent free, I wouldn't want to go through that expense. Is it worth it to become a real estate investor?

Another suggestion is to rent out of state, but as a newbie, I would rather not start with that.

I would really want to own multi family properties, and am looking for advice on how to go about that given the current situation.
