@Antonio Cucciniello, great points and thank you for the feed back. My wife and I are both VA eligible, I am a Vet and she is currently on Active Duty. This loan was in my name alone. I feel like our mistake was buying a home at market value instead of below. We have remodeled the master bath, but that is all.

@David Pere and @Kevin Hunter, my lender would only bring up LTV when talking to her about a new mortgage. It sounded like she was thinking I want to take a loan out on my current equity, which is not the case. If I were to call back and discuss the matter, do you have any advice on how I should phrase the question? Also, we are moving to Fort Leavenworth, KS. So we are looking for homes around Leavenworth/Kansas City.

Thank you all!

Josh, what a small world. We are currently at Polk. Looking to do the same thing you did, buy and hold. We are realizing that the market is slow to appreciate and the chances of us cash flowing on rent will be slim. We would love to keep the property long term. I did not know about the USAA 90/10. I will be calling them. Are you using a property manager down here?

Hi everyone! My wife and I are new to the investing journey. We are a military couple and move every few years. Our plan is to capitalize on the move to purchase distressed property and fix it up while we live in it, while taking advantage of the VA Loan, and then rent it out once we leave. We were not aware of Bigger Pockets before our 1st purchase at our current location and we created very little equity, possibly because of poor strategy. We are off to our next location in July. I called the mortgage company today to get pre-approved but was informed of the LTV and we are above 80%, the lender says it will be hard for us to get another loan. I have 2 answers in mind but do not like either, I would like to seek some advice on our next steps. Thank you very much for your input.
