Post: Which entity works best for REI..Corp., S-Corp., LLC?

I'm in the process of filing for my business entity. I have a partner and we run a Wholesaling business here in Houston, TX. He is a real estate agent, also.
We are debating between Corporation, S-Corporation, and LLC...I've noticed LLC is the most popular, but I remember from some ancient business contract class that S-Corps have the most benefits and protection. Can't really recall though why or if it's true..My memory isn't the greatest, lol. I was also in a different industry then.
Hoping to create discussion on the topic and find out pros/cons of each entity so I can make the best decision.
What entity did you file under, and why?
Thanks BP friends!

Hey Adam! I'm starting Wholesaling too. Idk what state your in or the laws, but I'm in Texas so I think I have more freedom here. Best thing that's happened to me so far in this journey is 1. Binging every podcast that has Wholesaling in it, all the way back to the first episodes. 2. I met a Wholesaler that has introduced me to investing events where all the investors go...If REI is the key, these events would be what's waiting on the other side of the door. See if you can find the investor events (mine was hosted by a lending company, they had it on FB) and get yourself in there. Literally everyone I met there was a real, in the game, investor. So many people were willing to hire me and help me out in Wholesaling. Much much more beneficial than what I get at a regular REI meeting.
Currently starting my first cold calls and going from there. Good luck, man!

@Brenda Moulton Hey Brenda! Thanks for replying on my intro and reaching out :) That's awesome you're on your third deal ! I just began my hunt for my first deal, what sort of investing are you into? I'd also like to learn more about your journey. And I agree, us women have to support each other and get in the game :D

I'm in your exact position, Dylan. Have about 10k and ready to jump in. I plan do Wholesale next 6mo-1year, then do a House Hack. After that, and with some added experience, I can begin to build my portfolio of properties with more cash for a stronger start. Just my route! You're doing good considering all your options. Good luck and glad to see someone else in my shoes who is ready to make moves, not just talk about them!

@Cameron Tope Hey Cameron! Thanks for replying on my intro :)
You are right about a lot on my plate.
Right now, I'm planning on focusing just on Wholesaling for the next 6 months. My lease is up in August and I want to be prepared to purchase for House Hacking at that point. Until then, it's just trying to nab my first wholesale and stash that income.
I've learned through the podcasts that it's easy to get caught up in all the strategies and like you said spreading yourself thin is a sure way to not get anywhere. I believe it was said "being good at one thing first is better than mediocre at a few things"...Now I'm just trying to apply that knowledge and stick to it.
You think I am being focused enough with just Wholesaling next 6 months or am I still too thin?
Thank you for your input!

Hey everyone! Happy to be in Bigger Pockets!
My name is Shelby Hensley, and I've recently become a Houstonian :) Originally from Tampa, FL, my job moved me out here about 2 years ago. Gotta say, I miss home sometimes, but I love Houston!
I currently run a business called Twistee Treat (ice cream shop) and have 3 locations here in Houston. Had 5, but well..we're having a hard time being successful out here. Knowing full damn well my company would cut my position with no cares and at any given time, I decided to pursue other avenues of income.
I've always been a hustler. Since I was young, I figured out how to make a little extra money and develop side hustles. Now that I'm older (I'm 27), I believe in my entrepreneurial spirit and my own grind. Right now I'm a serious Reseller, giving me extra coin in my bank. Corporate life just isn't it for me.
My goals in real estate is to take action and really be in the trenches of this industry. I am currently pursuing wholesaling (i've recently had someone willing to 'mentor' me), house hacking, and Air BnB strategies. I have no experience yet, at all. I've spent the last 2 years just saving my money and am ready to make moves. I plan to generate sufficient income to quit my job and build long term wealth.
I was brought to Bigger Pockets by a good friend and now partner, Jessi Palacios. Now I'm binging BP, lol! Thankful for everything he's shown me thus far. Together, we are here to do business with integrity and make an impact in the Houston market.
Feel free to reach out and connect with me! I'll be reaching out a lot, I'm sure. I'm a big people person and love building meaningful relationships. I hope to connect with as many people as possible and learn as much as I can from anyone willing to show me.
Thanks for reading! Besides BP, you can find me on Facebook or Instagram.
