We are about to purchase a 5 unit property. At what size is it appropriate to name an apartment complex? (I.e. 5+, 10+, etc).

@Benjamin Williams I don't feel like I can give you advice on what you should do, but want to tell you about my experience. I went to college for much of the same reason you are describing, got my real estate license while in school, then when i graduated used the elevated salary I got from my degree to help build my investments. I do hope to leave my current job once I am at a place where I can support myself on REA and REI, but having the W-2 income has helped. I also used my job to get my masters which has increased my salary even more. Basically, using my salary to allow me to save faster so I can invest faster. For me finishing my degree has helped me support my passion for REI, the one thing I wish I had done sooner was invest, but other than that I wouldn't change anything. I like to think that because of my degree and experience I'm recession proof and diversified. My husband is a Computer Scientist with the same ambition as me. Having a diversified fall back, whatever that is, is important. In the long run, 2 years to earn your degree will only help and isn't a long time.

Good luck!

Post: Contractor Recommendations Needed Boston Area

My husband and I are doing a house hack on a 1890s multi family in Malden MA. As you can imagine, there is a lot of work that needs to be done and we can’t do all of it ourselves.

We’ve had a really hard time trying to find someone reliable and reasonably priced (or even have them show up when they said they would...).

Looking for recommendations of professors that are your go-tos in the Boston area?

(Project examples: building deck on a flat roof, window replacements, sill plate repair, etc)

Thanks in advance!

Taylor

Welcome, Ian! My husband and I were actually wondering the same thing, as Salem is one area we're considering for an upcoming BRRRR as well. Would love to hear what other areas you're also considering, trade ideas.

Hi Dan - Welcome to the BP community! My husband and I are actually in a similar boat. We have a couple income properties (locally and at a distance) and are looking to grow. We haven't looked into Cleveland specifically, but do have a property in Memphis and are looking to expand into other markets.

Would be great to connect and perhaps meet up for coffee? We are based in Boston as well. Send me a message if interested.

Best,

Taylor
