Post: Real Estate/Small Business CPA Recommendation - Boulder CO

Hi All,

I am looking for a CPA who specializes in real estate and small business tax and accounting.  Ideally, this individual or company is located in or close to (reasonable driving distance) Boulder Colorado.

I need someone willing to take the time to understand the nuances of my business and who can help strategize the right next steps.  I own one small multi-family (another to follow shortly) as well as run a small, non-real estate-related start-up in Boulder.

Thanks, for what I sure will be some great recommendations!

@Steve K. thank you, I believe that to be the case as well.  There are a few hurdles that remain to be overcome, and I'm sure a few surprises along the way.  Full steam ahead though and learning as much as possible along the way.

@Catie Lawrence, thank you, I will shoot you a dm and would love to take a look at your document.

@Chris Freeburg regarding both your and Catie's point, I would absolutely look to self manage this property.  I have a background in home construction and renovation and generally consider myself pretty handy.  However, my job with the Park Service is full bore from April thru October.  We generally spend two weeks on the road, often without cell service, then are home for two days before heading back out.  So at a minimum I am looking for some sort of hybrid management setup where I can still be as involved as possible in the process, yet there is someone always available in the event of a need.

I would love hang onto that money and get an education at the same time but that may not be feasible for my current situation.

I have been playing around with budget numbers and while some of my cost figures are still a little soft (lack of actual data) I do believe that renting individual rooms will provide enough cash flow to still turn a profit.  I am however open to all suggestions, there quite likely are some options that I have not yet considered.

Thanks for the replies!  @Jody Sperling, I have a suspicion that you might be right, the 10 year goal leaves a lot of room for acceleration.  I do love my day job, but am in no way opposed to increasing the pace of my investing.  Just have to get the first one under my belt, then reassess.

@Mike Wadsley, you are spot on, a good property manager is going to be key to this whole endeavour.  I am actually currently looking for one in the Denver area who does rent the room management.  I will reach out to Craig Curelop, but am open to suggestions if you know of anyone.

Hello Everyone,

I am excited to be making my first post here on Bigger Pockets!  This website has been a fantastic resource for tackling the sharp real estate learning curve.  I am looking forward to networking in this community.

Currently I am in the information gathering phase, analyzing deals and learning the market.  My goal is to purchase my first property in October 2021.  I intend to execute a rent by the room strategy on the north side of Denver.  This will be followed by another property in 2022 and so on, with the ultimate goal of being in real estate full time by 2030.

I currently spend my summers with the National Park Service as part of a Wildland Fire suppression resource.  Free time is spent outdoors, enjoying the mountains and all that Colorado has to offer.

Thanks for reading, chat soon.
