What do you think? Based on what I know about the town and local economy, I wouldn't be rushing at these vacant lots. Not eve sure of the best way to deal with a vacant lot. Interested to hear from people with experience on the matter.

The difference for us is not a lack of interest in real estate, it's different levels of risk aversion.

I always say that if we ever get into a bad deal, it will be my fault. If we ever pass on a good deal, it will be her's.

Recognize that your partnership with your spouse is one of the most valuable things in the investment world. Use that, ideally for real estate investing. If not, you can always find something else in which to invest.

Hey Salt Lake City investors.

I am in SLC today and tomorrow for a tech conference (ngconf). If there's anything going on in SLC, or if anyone would like to meet and talk investment, just shoot me a message.

Also, if any of you happen to be at ngconf, we should definitely talk.

If you have any recommendations for things to do/see, throw them in the thread.

@Jeff G.

@Brian Eastman has some great points, and I think the article is spot on. The same fervor we see overtaking the domestic stock market has been passed on to REITs. For one thing, with historically high valuations, the timing is pretty bad to make new REIT investments, at least from my perspective.

Beyond that, the concerns I share are one argument, and not applicable to everyone. For one thing, owning property is a hassle. REITs definitely win on that front.

I do think that residential real estate investors benefit greatly from policies that encourage home ownership. To my knowledge, most brokerages won't let you trade on more margin than you have in your account. Real estate financing, on the other hand, is practically given away. Then on the tail end, when things go south, the financing is not immediately withdrawn, payments are not immediately due.

At the end of the day, the asset can never move as fast as a REIT, and a slow asset is a good thing in a topsy turvy market. I look at diversification as more than just asset classes, but also the way I hold the assets.

Just my two cents. Hope that helps.

@Jeff G.

I think that REITS are an excellent institutional investment vehicle. That being said, I do think there are some stark differences between physical property ownership. I have outlined my thoughts in a recent blog post on Bigger Pockets. Love to hear what you think: On REITS, Part I

@Chris Clothier

Just was interested in a central source to find some reviews of turnkey companies. I did a quick search and found turnkeyrate.com. I had not seen any the posts on turnkey-reviews.com, but that site seems much better set up for this sort of thing.

As far as I am concerned, they can private message me. I am just not sure how this stacks up with the Bigger Pockets terms of service (since it's slightly like a solicitation).

Chris, I will take you up on that offer for referrals. I will send you an email.

@Joseph Theriault

If you have any more issues, send me a message. I would recommend writing something custom (like a script) for dealing with something like this.
