Fire him ...it looks like your project is is first day holding any carpenter tools .He only had to work for a week helping a real framer to know this is the wrong way to do it .

@Jeff Gardner Auction is not a sure thing for sure.Go to the  auction study it . Start small and make sure you do your Due diligence ,and do your self a favor no 400K first deal.
