First you will say "wow, there is a hell of a lot of down in the DOW" (yup, because traders make $ on, trading, not increasing, why there called traders and not growers).

There was a more gradual spike in 2016, this one went parabolic.Bond traders are panicking and dumping more risky bonds.

In my former occupation as a stocks and options trader there was plenty of cash flow to do this.  

One of the biggest oil traders of the world got wiped out in Singapore a couple years go. 

Contrast with stocks or mutual funds where you more or less park your money and wait (unless you're a day trader).

No, it is not 100% passive as hardly anything is - ask a day trader. 

Being a successful active stock trader is incredibly complex.  

I have ten thousand reasons I would do this over the stock market (and I am an Investor Relations analyst by day, my hubs is a trader on his off days, we are both in O&G and KILLING ourselves to move everything into RE as quickly as possible.)
