US and European VAs are unfortunately way too expensive on any of the portals.

There are different kinds of options, the option detailed above is a "European Option" (has nothing to do with Europe) where the right to purchase becomes effective over a short period or on a date in the future.

Some deposit rates are actually negative in several European countries including Switzerland.If I can get 4-4.5% AAA bonds I'm done with real estate and stocks for now and will buy those all day long!

I have never bought RE in the States, though I´ve come close (and all my family are home owners), so I can vouch for some similarities between US and European markets.
