Even after stripping out all the carpet and padding the urine smell permeated the house!

I simply wanted to inform other BP members to a common, albeit important, misconception that permeates this site.

If moisture can permeate up into the flooring, then probably yes.

The smoke and heat permeates the entire home, then water damage leads to potential mold hiding anywhere.

It will permeate into everything you do...including REI. 

We now think the odors permeated into the slab.

I actually do KNOW how the fire started (the owner was smoking in an upstairs bedroom) so I BELIEVE the damage is fairly minimal (and contained) but someone I know said to me "oh, there's smoke damage, forget about it, the smoke permeates EVERYTHING and the only way to get rid of the smell is to gut the entire house (which is why I was worried).CK Hwang - that you for validated what I was thinking.  

Smoke permeates and damages ceilings, carpets, walls, and floor coverings.

Also, the tenting method uses a gas which permeates everything- books and papers, plastic, and much more!

I rehabbed a cat pee house,, the urine had permeated the grout, the sub floor was actually still damp with urine.. so we also had to rip that out.. tile, grout, sub floor..Excessive nail holes are tenants responsibility,, charge for repair.Good luck.
