Make sure you're comparing to units that are part of a residential building, not a commercial or luxury apartment building with amenities, etc. 

What I have seen are a LOT more cash offers, especially in the luxury segment.

I am sorry you are going through this because I wouldn’t wish it on anyone but if your expectation was that a 5 bedroom property would afford the luxury of quitting your job that seems unrealistic.

Interestingly growing up my family mostly vacationed in Puerto Rico as my grand parents were living at the their home in Vieques for a majority of the year, in my young childhood they owned a hotel in Lincoln, NH one of the most popular mountain destinations in New England.
