When I am evaluating a new market and looking for contractors I start at the best local building supplier (NOT HD/LOWES) and talk to the folks at the contractor desk.

After talking again to his team they transferred me to Steve where he proceeded to listen to PORN in the background and telling me I would need to pay more money.

My fasteners came from the supplier who supplies HD/Lowes. 

Three years ago had a 3/1 in Philadelphia went through HD for an estimate bathroom remodel $15k no tile, no gut.

@Leah HollidayWell, this is an easy fix at least.You need some JB HighHeat Weld, sold in an epoxy putty stick for nine bucks a pop at Amazon, Lowes, HD, pretty much every home repair store.

The local HD Supply also looked pretty picked over from last time I was there.  

Years ago I used the 3P index... pawn shops, porn stores, and payday loans. .. too many too close and it’s still too early.

I would personally do it myself first, understand what's involved, use HD money or private money before bringing my friend along.
