I had the same questions about why some strip centers are closed and only have churches left in them.. or the banks are closed etc.. and part of the issues were just financial.. in the rougher areas and keep in context Jackson is 80% black in the entire city.. so there are just like any other city  you have the hood very run down areas most commercial business closed.. you have transition areas call it blue collar then you have the white collar parts of town where the grocery stores are fine banks are OK and you have the malls. ..

Cooking Italian food, playing drums in our church worship team, book in hand with toes in the sand, spending time with family and grandchildren.

I offered $280k and everyone acted like I was stealing out of the collection plate at church.

Put it out there to your co-workers, friends from church or little league, around your neighborhood, on a your facebook page, etc, etc.

Back before big government programs, poor folks in need could get help from family, friends, or the church (or wherever they worship). 

He trashed the house so badly I sold it to the church across the street at 75% of what I paid for it and they tore it down.
