That said, you might be able to save some money by buying now but it probably comes with some degree of risk, although it may be smaller than the news would have you think.

@Dan Heuschele as far as the airport (Linbergh), I have a relative that lives in PB that says the noise in OB is very bad and I've read news about citizens in Ocean Beach protesting the noise.

The neighbors, being irate about the fact they live in a nice area and have a vagrant squatting next door, called every outlet imaginable; the local news stations (all 3), sheriff, police, city council members, congressmen...Everyone imaginable was called.

Figuring out where to live, what you'll be doing professionally, and then trying to throw in long distance real estate investing may be an uphill challenge.The ability to get in the trenches of a local market during times like these to be able to see where value is going, stay abreast of political changes, news, developments, business closings/openings, etc, is in my opinion very helpful.
