For example, if I live in Houston, and want to make a yearly drive (a la Camper Van) to Utah/Colorado to go mountain biking, could I set up a meeting in advance with my CPA that would allow me to deduct the travel expenses?  

A couple nuggets:I'm glad we purchased a smaller cabin in the market that I didn't know (great smoky mountains) as it's occupancy is much higher and I have a pretty good idea of what income will be each month.Our 2nd beach condo is across the street from the beach without beach access (you have to drive or walk .25 a mile). 

When I purchased the property, the pine trees were swaying in the wind, the skies were beautiful, blue, and the stream running from the mountains past my house was calm and beautiful. when I moved in it was raining, the stream was overflowing, and the pastor was flooding.

Lakes, rivers, mountains, recreation galore, and it's HOME.

One property is in Brooklyn, NY and they have paid before time and on time for April and May; especially considering the pervasive "rent strike" atmosphere in NY at this time.

As far as outside of the city, south aka the “over the mountain areas” is where all the good school systems are if you a looking for a real safe investment.

I remember when one started in Ukiah and burnt over to Lakeport and took out 90% of cow mountain area.. but the majority of that was just low brush chaparral.. now its in the old growth forests and that is a tragedy.

There are mountains of research on this in the stock market displaying this and the same applies to real estate.

Either way, depending on where you are in the Triangle, you're only about 2.5 hours to the beach and 3-4 hours to the mountains.
