The clean up crew brought in these massive dehumidifiers and fans; I slept in the house that night and it was like sleeping inside a tornado.

Pretty sure you will be ok either way so I would t lose too much sleep over it.  

As far as setting up a place for you to live, if you don't find the vibe in Reno you could look at Carson City so you can easily still work on your properties in Reno and sleep in your own bed plus you are close to all of the outdoor activities at Lake Tahoe.

buy a house and rent out every bedroom and you sleep on a couch or in a basement. 

You still need a place to sleep!
