Same - seeing white/off white for walls and darker colors for cabinets is definitely in.

I had this kitchen years ago and painted it dark blue but for a rental today I would probably go a midtone darker shade of the rest of rooms, a muted blue or sage green.  

At first, there’s little shade or fruit.

These shades can create a bright and airy atmosphere and will complement a variety of furniture styles and decor.For the cabinets, a classic white or a soft cream can provide a clean, timeless appeal.

No shade being thrown of course, it just isn't true in my experience with flips in those areas, and yes buy and hold do cash flow good on paper in those areas, but if you want to be in an area with good growth I'd avoid 80% of Price Hill and Westwood. 

Darker colors might be good if you want to hide stains from multiple guests over the years spilling drinks.

Investing in real estate is like planting trees, they do not bear shade or fruit in the first few years, if your horizon is 10+ years you will be very happy you took action earlier in life.
